City Commission Meeting Summary - October 18, 2021

The Plymouth City Commission approved a temporary extension of sidewalk patio season through December 31, 2021 at its regular meeting held on Monday, October 18, 2021. The temporary extension applies only to outdoor patios located on public sidewalk areas and does not include the extended patios located in on-street parking areas or areas on private property. Businesses with on-street patios and extended patio areas on private property will be required to vacate their space on or before November 1, 2021.
The City Commission authorized up to $24,000 for the design phase and $8,000 for the initial construction phase for improvements to the bathrooms at the Plymouth Cultural Center. The architectural work is expected to be completed by NSA Architecture of Farmington Hills. The City was awarded a $250,000 grant from the State of Michigan to make improvements to the facility to meet ADA compliance.
The City Commission authorized the design phase of pedestrian signal improvements at five intersections in the City of Plymouth. The design will include Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons (RRFB) at the following intersections: Ann Arbor Trail and Evergreen, Penniman at Evergreen, Ann Arbor Trail and Forest, Starkweather and Liberty, and the Main Street midblock crosswalk between Ann Arbor Trail and Penniman.
Other items of note from Monday's meeting include the approval of an emergency rental of a chiller and primary pump replacement at the Plymouth Cultural Center, the approval of the first reading of amendments to the Multi-Family Zoning Ordinance, and the approval of several events including: Thriller in the Park Workout Class on October 29, 2021, Plymouth Goodfellows Annual Paper Sale on December 4, 2021, Compassionate Friends Worldwide Candle Lighting on December 12, 2021, and the 40th Annual Plymouth Ice Festival February 11-13, 2022.
